It has a focus to recognize you are part of a larger ECOSYSTEM and to define strategy, execute behaviors, tactics, and actions for working with groups and processes outside of your team. It includes understanding your business ecosystem, building healthy peer and support group relationships, as well as recognizing, and navigating the political environment. Also, the key is giving visibility to your team’s work process and output and networking through your teams’ participation in organizational and company events.
3. Manage up: Take A Seat at The Leadership Table
Managing Up is a mindset centered on your ORGANIZATION. It has a BUSINESS focus to establish healthy relationships and effective communication with your organizational leadership. It includes behaviors, tactics and actions associated with understanding and aligning your team to the organizations Vision and Mission, providing solutions that accomplish the business needs, actively engaging as a member of the leadership team, implementing efficient and predictable communication, and effective utilization of company tools and process.
4. Manage Forward: Empower A Team Motivated to Be the Best
Managing Forward is a mindset centered on your TEAM. The focus is to improve the team’s PERFORMANCE through strategy, behaviors, tactics, and actions associated with building a positive and healthy work environment. It includes leading your team to plan and measure work, assess, recognize, and reward the team members, grow skills and capabilities, manage through change, overcome obstacles, and ultimately lead the team to successfully achieve its goals. It is by far the largest aspect of the dimensions of people management and most successful when done in conjunction with Manage In, Manage Out, and Manage Up.
